<page method="xml-texts" num="10"><![CDATA[I am also really interested in understanding how the role of an architect could be important in the next future, when metaverse is going to be the new internet and when people will buy digital houses as NFTs What did you like the most about the Bachelor in Architecture at IE University? The inclusivity and merging of different cultures in one space stood out to me the most. I really enjoyed meeting people with different backgrounds and origins. I have Chinese origins, but I moved to Italy when I was five. As a result, I spent most of my life feeling different, but I found a lot of things in common with other third- culture students at IE University. It made me feel at home. What skills did you gain that have been useful in your career? During my years studying the Bachelor in Architectural Studies, I learned how to present projects in front of a committee and an audience. This has been useful in my career because part of the job of an architect is having the ability to talk and explain designs to clients. Tell us a bit about your professional experience since graduation. After graduating, I began working remotely for a Mexican firm. In the span of a year, we finished a residential project in the state of Morelos. It was such a rewarding experience to see our project actually being built, which is something you don’t see often while you’re a student. Once that project was complete, I worked for a small architecture firm in Pavia, Italy. We worked on a variety of projects, but our main focus was a competition to renovate an old school into an innovative eldercare center. Currently, I’m working in Milan for a residential renovation company. What makes our company different from a traditional architecture studio is that we provide everything related to renovation, from architectural design and construction supervision to selecting and supplying materials, finishes and furniture. My job is to help the clients in the renovation as a whole, not solely the design aspects of it. What do you see for your future? My next goal is to work for a bigger company and move abroad. I’d really like to gain work experience in Asia. I’m also interested in understanding how architects will play an important role in the next future, that is the future when metaverse is the new internet and people will buy digital houses as NFTs. Until then, I’m enjoying my current job position, continuing to learn more about this new technology, and participating in architectural competitions. What is your advice for anyone who wants to study architecture? My advice for anyone who wants to study architecture would be to carefully consider how difficult this profession is and how many responsibilities come with it, but to also think about how rewarding it will be to see your own projects come to life. I chose architecture because I wanted to improve people’s quality of life through design—which if you ask me, is a very important part.]]></page>

<page method="xml-texts" num="16"><![CDATA[Over the course of her five-year journey as an undergraduate student in IE University’s Bachelor in Architectural Studies, Letizia has grown not only academically and professionally, but also personally, thanks to the people she met in the IE University community. She highlights the tutor she had who encouraged her to try new things—a move that took her to four different countries to enhance her outlook as an architect and as a person. The projects that she worked on in the UK, Chile, India, and Oman ranged from private residences to social housing and real estate development. Based on these academic, professional, and personal experiences, she saw that “human contact and human moments really make a difference.” These personal values were her inspiration when founding Kaura Studio—Spain’s first experiential architecture firm. What’s more, Letizia says that IE University stood out to her because she saw just how much she’d be able to apply her classroom learning to her professional endeavors. To this end, Letizia is also a consultant at LKI Real Estate Value where she focuses on retail and residential development consulting, and shopping center diagnostics, among other fields. When she’s not disrupting architecture, Letizia loves to let out her creativity in the kitchen. She is a passionate cook, and has even been trained by Le Cordon Bleu. Whether it’s architectural expertise or her proven entrepreneurial experiences, it’s clear that Letizia knows the recipe for success. One of the reasons why I chose IE University was mainly because I was able to practice alongside my degree]]></page>

<page method="xml-texts" num="20"><![CDATA[What has been your professional experience so far? So far I have completed two internships through IE University. The first in 2018 at Ecosistema Urbano, with a focus on urban design. And the second in 2019 with Saffron Consultants, working with brand design. I am currently interning at IE University as a post-degree fellow. What do you like the most about the Bachelor in Architectural Studies at IE University? What I’ve found unique about the Bachelor in Architectural Studies is its open-endedness. I’ve enjoyed the fact that the program doesn’t teach you to be one specific kind of architect, but instead allows you to leave your options open. Additionally, the program shows you various outcomes that the profession has to offer, far beyond the conventional ones. Do you feel like your time at IE University has helped you be successful in your internships? Yes, I think it has. The education you receive at IE University covers a wide range of topics, which ultimately work as stepping stones for when you want to get involved in more specific fields during internships. You are able to build a solid, well-rounded foundation with plenty of opportunities for growth. Did IE University help you find and obtain your internships? Most of my internships have been through the university. IE University has a solid network of firms that has been established from previous years or through connections with the faculty. These firms provide positions for interns. IE University is also willing to contact new firms if you have a particular interest. Even though this may be a bit more of a gamble, there is always the chance that it works out well and you end up with the opportunity you were looking for. Do you have any tips for students looking for architecture internships? I think there are two ways to go about it— you either know exactly what you want to do after your studies and you aim for internships that are highly tailored to those interests, or you seek a more open-ended, holistic training. I was personally more inclined toward the latter when I was still studying, especially because as a student it gave me more leeway in terms of trying different things and maybe even finding a new interest. Although the open-ended training can be more challenging in the beginning, the wide range of knowledge you acquire afterwards is well worth it. I was able to experience how it feels to be involved in such a huge project, and how organization and teamwork are essential for efficiency]]></page>

<page method="xml-texts" num="26"><![CDATA[As an architecture intern, Emily Taonga Cole learned the value of applying classroom learning to real- life projects. She also got the chance to practice using some of the most essential tools of the trade. Tell us about your internship experience. I completed my internship with a company that works mainly on public large-scale competitions and other public commissions, as well as private projects such as residential buildings. As a smaller firm, it provided a more interactive experience with the whole team of four architects. I also had the opportunity to work on a number of assignments, from 3D modeling to putting together drawings in Autocad and using rendering software. Overall, the internship was an amazing experience. I was fortunate to be deeply involved in each project I assisted with. Throughout the two months, I consistently worked on a penthouse renovation project. At the same time, I handled the post-production of renders in Photoshop and used a software called CYPE, which focuses on building installations. I was always learning, even when I wasn’t directly working on a project. What are some key skills you have acquired or improved during this experience? Having the chance to learn about architecture in the real world with working architects and real clients helped me develop key skills. Additionally, working with D5 Render, an industry- standard rendering software, and enhancing my drawing skills will be useful in my career. While navigating the rendering software on my own was challenging, it was also incredibly rewarding. Lastly, I was able to sharpen my existing skills and, in the process, learned so much more. This internship helped me figure out what direction I want to move towards in the future. How did you use the skills and knowledge from your Bachelor in Architectural Studies in this role? When it comes to architecture, it’s essential to take the skills and knowledge acquired during your studies and learn how to apply them in real-world roles, beyond the safety bubble that academic environments provide. For instance, my experience with CYPE allowed me to contribute to a project that other interns couldn’t, thanks to what I had learned in past courses. Can you share a specific challenge you faced and how you overcame it? The main challenge was adapting to the work life of an architect, which is quite different from that of a student. The difficulties lay in learning how to adjust and overcome new challenges each day while also understanding that it’s okay to make mistakes and ask questions—you’re not expected to know everything. But in the end, I really appreciated my internship and the learning opportunities along the way. What have you enjoyed the most about your internship experience? I enjoyed everything—the experiences came together to create a truly enriching learning journey. From the early wake-ups to drafting plans, sections and elevations of entire buildings, and the daily greeting from the lovely office dog, each moment enriched my experience. This internship also helped me explore what I might or might not want in my future career. However, I realize I still have much more to learn before I can make a final decision!]]></page>
